CT Voices for Children participated in a panel discussion at the 2006 New Haven Festival of Arts and Ideas. This session examined some of the parallels between New Orleans and New Haven and how chronic “storms” of poverty have historically impacted both cities. Below is the Powerpoint presentation from Voices staff, as well as the presentation from Amy Liu, Deputy Director of the Metropolitan Policy Project at the Brookings Institution whose recent work has focused on New Orleans after Katrina. The Voices’ presentation is based in part on a report we released last year, “What if a Hurricane Hit Connecticut? Reflections on Katrina and the “Chronic Storms” Faced by Connecticut’s Poor.”
