This brief summarizes Governor Malloy's proposed budget adjustments for Fiscal Year 2013. This proposed budget contains important increases in funding for quality and access in early care and education programs. Most significantly, the budget includes:

  • $4 million in new funding for 500 School Readiness slots in Priority School Districts;
  • $5 million in bond funding for a Tiered Quality Rating and Improvement System;
  • $3 million in new funding for professional development; and
  • $5 million in bond funding for facility improvements and minor capital repairs to School Readiness programs and state-funded child care centers.

Another significant aspect of the Governor's budget is its continued movement toward a more integrated system of early care and education.
