This fact sheet summarizes Census estimates for some key child and family well-being measures in all cities and towns in Connecticut.  Through the American Community Survey, the Census provided five-year average estimates on social and economic indicators for the period of 2008-2012 for all cities and towns in the state.  This analysis by CT Voices summarizes estimates of:

  • people in poverty
  • children in poverty
  • median household income
  • people uninsured, and
  • children uninsured.

Our analysis indicates where there have been statistically significant changes between the 2000 decennial Census estimates (the most recent comparison period available for all towns) and these 2008-2012 estimates for poverty and income measures. This enables us to explore how Connecticut cities and towns have changed over the past decade.  (Earlier, comparable health insurance coverage estimates are not available, so it is not possible to make comparisons over time for that indicator.)

We envision a Connecticut that creates opportunity for everyone, not just the lucky and privileged few. Together, we can ensure a prosperous future for all of our children.
