Data released by the U.S. Census Bureau, as analyzed by Connecticut Voices for Children, detailed the level of poverty and uninsured rates in the United States, Connecticut, its counties, its major cities, and Congressional Districts in 2014.

The data show a significant decline in the uninsured rate across nearly all categories as the Affordable Care Act took hold. At the same time, median income in both the Nation and Connecticut rose by a statistically significant amount.

But even with these positive changes, the data still provided troubling news for Connecticut. While incomes rose, poverty and child poverty did not change significantly. And the state continued to see disparities across racial and ethnic groups in health insurance coverage and poverty.

We envision a Connecticut that creates opportunity for everyone, not just the lucky and privileged few. Together, we can ensure a prosperous future for all of our children.
